The article, “Line in Dance? Let’s Go Back to the Drawing Board” in The New York Times today talks about the creation of lines and about the movement involved in that creation, particularly as it relates to dance. The artist , Henri Matisse, was mentioned in the article and it reminded me of a quote by him: “Drawing is line making an expressive gesture with the advantage of permanence.”

This article, along with the quote by Matisse, inspired me to create a line drawing that mimics the flow of movement and gestures of dance. As with all creative expression, where the lines begin and end is less important than the feeling that the full expression evokes.
