Even though I live in the wilds of rural Oregon, in an area hewn from cliffs between the mighty Columbia River and the awe inspiring Mt. Hood, where winds rip through the gorge at 50 miles an hour on many winter days, today’s one inch snowfall closed the schools and kept my newspaper from reaching me. By the time I got a paper, delivered by my son after work, I was in the midst of painting so when I took a break at 8 p.m. and went to get started on my piece for the day, my semi-high speed (rural) internet service was at its least functional and denied me entrance. Now it’s nearly 11 p.m., and the best I can do is display the picture I took at 8 a.m., to demonstrate the beauty of the snow that kept the paper away. Living in the country can be a challenge.
