Our poor, young, beloved cat Ollie suddenly became critically ill this weekend and was rushed to the vet with a fever over 106 degrees. We were told that usually means seizures, probable death, and at the very least lasting brain damage. He was loaded up with fluids, antibiotics, and steroids and after much agonizing we decided to bring him home in order to make his last few hours on earth as comfortable as possible, rather than rushing him into specialty crisis care in Manhattan where it was possible that all of their invasive medical procedures would still not be able to save him.
Due to the crisis and my need to monitor him for seizures or other signs of extreme suffering I have been unable to complete a project today. However, as documented, the papers I’ve been collecting are serving a practical use.
A few hours ago Ollie’s raging fever started to dissipate. Since then he’s been able to wobble around a bit and even nibble some food. I decided to snap a photo of his improving condition, if only to document the entirely unexpected persistence of this well-loved cat’s will to survive.
