Aram Jibilian, 10/27/2011, One True Love
In today’s New York Times, there was an article about the ongoing struggle taking place between the European countries, and within individual countries, as the continent grapples on how to “save the euro”. An image of two members of the Italian Parliament engaged in a physical squabble accompanied the article. Right next to this image, as well as on a full page on the back of the newspaper, was an ad from Tiffany’s showing a diamond ring with the words “There is Only One True Love” printed above it. I am intrigued by this effort to equate love with money, or in this case extravagant luxury goods. Perhaps this can partly explain the heated passion that is taking place between the people in power as they decide on how to save their wealth.
