 “Not too Swift”

I constructed Not too Swift from the pages of AM New York, a free daily newspaper designed for morning commuters. The whole paper is designed to be read in the span of a subway ride, so it is usually pretty sparse with information.

Today, AM New York was wrapped in a full-color glossy ad for Taylor Swift’s new perfume, “Wonderstruck.” If you are familiar with these outer covers, they are very annoying. Usually, I leave the ads on the rack and take the paper. I noticed that there were a lot of people doing the same thing, so I grabbed a few of them to make my piece for 365.

I saw a brief part of a story about Taylor Swift last night on 60 Minutes .  Aside from being put off by the blank, insipid quality of Swift’s unfocused stare, I found out that the girls (yes, “tweens” are probably her biggest fanbase) who make the most noise and show the most fanaticism are invited backstage to meet their idol. This, of course, gives her Beatlesque screaming crowds that she surveys in “awe” of their adoration.

Andy Rooney is dead, long live Andy Rooney.
