I constructed CUNY from the pages of AM New York, a free daily newspaper designed for morning commuters. The whole paper is designed to be read in the span of a subway ride, so it is usually pretty sparse with information.

Yesterday evening, the board of trustees at the City University of New York voted to increase tuition rates by 30%. Protestors are angry about the hike, stating that many lower income students may not be able to afford the extra $300 a year.

As an educator, I have always felt that equal and quality education should be a national priority, and more importantly, it should be free.
We claim to be the land of opportunity, but the truth is that money sets the bar for the quality of education in many of our schools.
